AKTION Project Strengthens Austrian–Czech Research Cooperation on Innovative Hybrid Materials

DPU and VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava launch an Austrian–Czech research project on innovative hybrid materials with potential applications in optics, photocatalysis, and medicine.

Austrian–Czech Collaboration in Materials Research

Danube Private University (DPU) and VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO) have launched a new bilateral research collaboration supported by the AKTION Austria–Czech Republic programme, funded by the Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MŠMT).

The project “Integration of exfoliated g-C₃N₄ & MOF: build up towards optical and photocatalytic applications” focuses on the development and characterization of innovative hybrid materials combining exfoliated graphitic carbon nitride (eg-C₃N₄) and Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs).

By integrating these two material classes, researchers aim to create composites with enhanced physicochemical properties and explore their potential for optical, photocatalytic, environmental, and medical applications.

The project brings together the expertise of DPU’s Optical Biosensors Technology group at LiST and the Department of Chemical and Physicochemical Processes at VŠB-TUO. The collaboration is coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Juan A. Allegretto (DPU) and Dr. Facundo Barraqué (VŠB-TUO).

The project runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026 and is supported by the AKTION Austria–Czech Republic programme, fostering scientific exchange and collaboration between Austrian and Czech higher education institutions.
