DPU Represented at ORBITALY 2026 in Lecce

Danube Private University (DPU) presented current research at the international conference ORBITALY 2026 – Organic Bioelectronics Italy in Lecce.

Bioelectronics, Biomimetic Sensing and New Scientific Connections

Organic Bioelectronics Italy was recently held at the historic Convitto Palmieri in Lecce, Italy. The conference brought together 103 participants, including 9 keynote speakers, 15 invited speakers, 18 spotlight talks and 22 poster presentations, from the Italian and international research community working in bioelectronics, with a particular focus on organic materials and devices.

The programme highlighted recent advances at the interface of electronics, photonics, materials science and the life sciences.

Representing DPU, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Knoll delivered a keynote lecture entitled “Monitoring Odorants by a Biomimetic Smell Sensor”, presenting recent developments in biomimetic sensing approaches.

Dr. Roger Hasler presented a poster entitled “Beyond Mass or Charge: A Toolbox of Integrated SPR-FET Platforms for Multifaceted Investigation of Biomolecular Interactions” and was honoured with the Best Poster Award at the conference.

The participation provided an excellent opportunity to present research carried out at DPU, including work supported by the COMET Project PI-SENS and by the GFF project “Aptamers and Odorant Binding Proteins – Innovative Receptors for Electronic Small Ligand Sensing” (FTI22-G-012).

It also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen existing collaborations and establish new scientific connections.

Wolfgang Knoll and Roger Hasler returned from Lecce with new ideas, strengthened connections with colleagues and friends in the field, and promising opportunities for future collaborative research across the different research activities at DPU.
