Combining Biosensing, Engineering and Software
At Danube Private University (DPU), international and interdisciplinary researchers are working on technologies that have the potential to shape the future of diagnostics and healthcare.
Since April 2026, Koyo Kawabata, M.Eng. has been pursuing his PhD at Danube Private University in Austria. Originally from Japan, he studied at Kansai University, where he completed both his Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.). Before joining DPU, he worked in production engineering and developed AI-supported image inspection systems.
At DPU, Koyo Kawabata is combining this engineering and software expertise with his background in biosensors and image analysis. His research focuses on the development of sensitive biomolecular detection technologies with potential applications in medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
A particular focus of his work is the reliable detection of weak biological signals. By bringing together advanced sensing technologies, data analysis and hardware development, his research aims to contribute to more sensitive and robust detection approaches.
An International and Interdisciplinary Research Environment
Koyo Kawabata's research is embedded in the international and interdisciplinary environment of the LiST Group. Supervised by Assoc. Prof. Jakub Dostalek, PhD, and supported by Naoto Asai, PhD, he aims to build bridges between academic research and industrial applications.
His research journey also reflects the international character of DPU’s research community, with connections spanning Japan, Austria and the wider international scientific community. By combining different areas of expertise and perspectives, Koyo Kawabata hopes to contribute to new collaborations and to the development of technologies that can ultimately support practical applications in diagnostics and beyond.
