PI-SENS: DPU Research in the European Spotlight

European delegation explores successful approaches to connecting research, innovation and knowledge transfer

From Research Excellence to Real-World Innovation

How can excellent research become innovation that truly improves people's lives? This question was at the heart of a recent European Commission study visit to Austria. Representatives from Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine came together to learn from successful examples of research, innovation and knowledge valorisation.

As part of the programme hosted by the University for Continuing Education Krems, Prof. Dr. Christoph Kleber, Professor of Chemistry at Danube Private University (DPU), presented the COMET project PI-SENS – Personalized Medicine Enabled by Intelligent Sensing Systems as an Austrian best-practice example.

PI-SENS brings together materials science, biomedical research, advanced sensing technologies and intelligent data processing with the aim of developing technologies that enable earlier detection, a better understanding of disease and more precise responses to illness.

The project explores innovative biosensors and biomarker detection, as well as electronic nose technologies and the analysis of volatile compounds. These approaches open up new possibilities for making the human body measurable and creating new perspectives for personalised and preventive medicine.

Connecting the Entire Innovation Pathway

A key strength of PI-SENS is its focus on the entire innovation pathway: fundamental research, applied research, prototyping, industry collaboration and healthcare innovation.

By connecting research excellence with industrial collaboration, PI-SENS demonstrates how scientific discoveries can be translated into practical solutions for healthcare.

The invitation to present PI-SENS to an international European delegation highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research, knowledge transfer and innovation-driven collaboration in shaping the medicine of tomorrow.
